CTC - Heart of England

18 November 2008 :  The group is now known as CTC - Heart of England - the website address is www.ctc-heartofengland.org.uk

The new website is under construction : in the meantime the content and Events etc on this site will remain live

Who are we? A group of cyclists from south Birmingham and the surroundings, that enjoys riding together.

What do we do?  A busy programme of weekly day rides on Sundays and alternate Wednesdays together with some weekends away and holidays abroad.

How are the rides organised?  Each ride is led by the "Captain" for the day, who has planned the route to take into account the variable weather, mechanical issues etc to make sure we get to the lunch stop pub at the right time - allowing the other riders not to have to think where they are going!!

We usually have 10-15 riders out on a run, at a 10-12 mph average speed, which is quite leisurely. The rides have breaks for 11s, for lunch (we usually bring sandwiches on Sundays and have a pub lunch on Wednesdays), and 3s in the afternoon. The distance covered is about 40 miles in winter and 60 in summer, which works out as four stages of 60 - 90 minutes.

There is no separate CTC Southern Wheelers membership fee but we do collect a small ride contribution (currently 20p) to cover costs, as well as an annual contribution towards our bi-monthly magazine, The Connecting Link.

Ride with the Southern Wheelers

- Sunday rides are between 40 & 60 miles - every Sunday throughout the year
- Wednesday rides - every Wednesday throughout the year - alternating each week with a 40 mile ride or a meet for coffee and (sometimes) a shorter ride

Both rides are at a pace that will be appropriate to the group, the rides follow quiet lanes through the countryside and are suitable for most types of bicycle.
